By using this website you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, please don't use the site. The site is operated by G. Jeffrey Ares.

What's on the site belongs to someone

The books, blog posts, cover art, illustrations, photographs, and the site's design and text are the property of G. Jeffrey Ares or of whoever licensed them to him, and are protected by copyright. Excerpts published here are published for readers to read, not as a grant of permission to republish them.

You're welcome, without asking, to:

• Link to any page on this site.
• Quote a short passage in a review, article, school assignment, or discussion, with credit to G. Jeffrey Ares and, where you can, a link back.
• Use the material on the press page as that page describes.

Please ask first before:

• Reproducing a whole blog post, chapter, or substantial extract.
• Using the cover art or illustrations anywhere outside a review or news piece.
• Using anything here for commercial purposes, or to train an AI model.

Using the site

Please don't:

• Break into, disrupt, or overload the site or the services behind it.
• Scrape it at a volume that interferes with other people using it.
• Send anything through the forms that's unlawful, abusive, or deliberately misleading.
• Pretend to be someone else, including G. Jeffrey Ares.

What you send

If you send a message, a question, a review quote, or a suggestion, you keep ownership of it, but you give permission for it to be read, replied to, and, where it's clearly meant that way, like a review or a piece of praise, quoted on the site or in promotional material with your first name or the name you gave. If you'd rather something you sent wasn't quoted, say so and it won't be. See the Privacy Policy for what happens to your details.

Accuracy

Real care goes into the marine biology and conservation material on this site, but it's written for readers rather than as a scientific reference, and it can go out of date. See the Disclaimer for the fuller version.

Other sites

This site links to booksellers, conservation organisations, and other outside pages. Those sites aren't controlled by G. Jeffrey Ares, and linking to one isn't an endorsement of everything on it. What happens once you leave is between you and them.

Embedded content

The Reviews page can display a reader's Facebook post using Facebook's own embed tool, shown only after you click to load it, never automatically. That content isn't edited or verified beyond what's publicly visible on Facebook, and can be changed or removed by Facebook or the reader at any time without notice. Choosing to load it means your browser talks to Facebook directly from that point on, governed by Facebook's own terms and privacy policy; see the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy for what that means for you.

No warranty, and limits on liability

This site is provided as-is. There's no promise that it will always be available, error-free, or free of interruption. To the fullest extent the law allows, G. Jeffrey Ares isn't liable for any loss arising out of your use of the site or anything you relied on here.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that can't be limited by law, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Changes

These terms may change. The date at the top of the page shows when they last did, and continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the revised terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Hampshire, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
